BALLPEIN originally started as a project band called Sutcliffe’s hammer, later shortened to BALLPEIN around 1996 by Piggy and Si.
We later drafted in Gerry Twice on bass and Andy AK on drums.
At the time BALLPEIN had what would be now called a Metalcore sound. They played around 8 gigs with this line up including sets with Cause For Alarm, Knuckledust, Withdrawn, Freebase, Voorhees, Assert and Stampin’ Ground.
These gigs all took place between 1998-99 in Liverpool and wrexham.
This line up recorded, or should that be half-recorded a demo, due to one thing or another it was never mastered!
Although until recently – they forgot that this happened.
Through one thing or another, Si left the band in around 1999 – and a couple of other guitarists joined in, but the line ups never worked out.
Ballpein very nearly called it a day – but then enter Craw from a band we had previously played with called Blud-Shot. With the addition of Craw on guitar we changed our style slightly, more Oi! / hardcore based.
This line up unfortunately never played any gigs or did any recordings, although there is a couple of rehearsal tapes that have been ripped to mp3’s.
Through various reason the band split for good in 2001…
Until 2016…
As you may have noticed, the saga has most definitely continued.
After a few discussions and laughs about how fucking good we were, and could be again, we decided to get this shit up and running again. I think the main reason was because we all still have a lot to give music-wise and also it was and still is obvious how much we all love doing this band and working together as a team again.
2016 saw the introduction of Steve on guitar.
It was always going to be hard trying to find someone who not only likes and shares the same interest in music but would also fit in the band in general. Steve was most definitely the right man for the job, his infectious love of what he does has reinvigorated the rest of the band.
Expect some more gigs and demos very soon!
